Categories
1.** Pieced
Quilts may be hand or machine pieced. Pattern may be original or a variation of traditional pieced pattern.
2.** Applique or Other Techniques
2a. Applique work may be hand or machine
2b. Any quilt which does not fit into other categories, such as Cathedral Window, Crazy Quilt, Yo-Yo Quilt, or Embroidered Quilt
3.** Group, Large Quilt
Two or more persons made or contributed to the construction of the quilt which includes the top and the quilting. Two ribbons will be awarded for each winner: One for the quilt top and one for the quilting.
** Quilts in categories 1 through 3 are to be at least 60 inches wide and 80 inches long or larger, or have a minimum perimeter of 280 inches.
4. Group, Small Quilt
Two or more persons made or contributed to the construction of the quilt which includes the top and the quilting. Quilt is smaller than 60 inches by 80 inches, perimeter less than 280 inches. Two ribbons will be awarded for each winner: One for the quilt top and one for the quilting.
5. Small Wall Quilt
Any technique, size 25 inches by 25 inches or less
6. Wall Hanging
Quilts may be pieced and or appliqued and be a maximum size of 80" by 80". Please do not enter quilts already mounted or stretched on any kind of frame for hanging.
7. Theme Wall Hanging
The minimum perimeter size is 96" and the maximum perimeter size is 192" (for example, the completed quilt can measure no larger than 48" by 48", nor smaller than 24" by 24", or variations thereof). The theme of "Baskets" was chosen for the 2008 Show. We present the theme and you use your imagination and talent.
8. Youth
Age limit for this category is 18. Quilt can be made by a group. This group will receive ribbons but will not be judged. There is NO entry fee for Youth category

Contest Rules and Guidelines Show 2008

  1. Contest is open to legal residents of Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, or Arkansas
  2. Quilt must have been finished since 2006 and be in excellent condition.
  3. Quilt must be constructed and quilted be person(s) named on entry blank. (Webmasters' comment: If you are entering the group category, please list all persons who worked on this quilt. If someone quilted this quilt for you, their name goes on the list, and the quilt belongs in a Group category.)
  4. All quilt entries are to be made by one person except in Group Quilt category.
  5. Limit TWO quilts per category.
  6. Quilts, both pieced and appliqued, should be entered in the category of the technique which predominates. Please check just ONE category.
  7. Entries must be received from Monday, September 15 through Friday, September 19. If hand delivering your quilt, it must be received on Friday, September 19 to Rhea Optical, 1105 Broadway in Cape between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm. Quilts will be displayed September 27 and 28.
  8. All quilts will be covered by insurance from the time they arrive and are taken under protective care by RHQG until they are returned to the owner. (Note: Be sure to include the Estimated Value of the quilt on the Entry Blank. Quilts with estimated value of $500.00 or more must include written proof of value such as an Appraiser's Report. Quilts without an estimated value and written proof of value (if necessary) will not be accepted and forms will be returned to you for completion. You are responsible for insuring your quilt when shipping to us.
  9. A sleeve must be attached to the back of the quilt to provide easy hanging of the quilt. Failure to attach sleeve will disqualify your entry. Categories 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 need a 6 inch sleeve. Theme quilts, category 7 need a 4 inch sleeve. Small wall quilts need a 2 inch sleeve. Quilts in the youth category should have a sleeve appropriate to the size of the quilt.
  10. A photograph of your quilt must be included with the entry blank.
  11. Each quilt enterred needs to be placed in a pillow case (or other fabric case) and identified with the name, address, and telephone number of the entrant. Unless quilts are being mailed, please omit boxes and or plastic bags.
  12. All quilts must be registered by Friday, September 12. There is a $5 entry fee for each quilt entered by a guild member, and $8 for each quilt entered from non-guild member. This fee must be included with your Entry Blank when registering your quilt for the show. Space is limited, so we will stop taking entries when our number of quilt spaces is filled. Please submit a separate Entry Blank for each quilt. Print and fill in a copy of this form for each quilt. Make checks payable to RHQG.
  13. River Heritage Quilters Guild reserves the right to reject any quilt that we feel does not meet the standards we have set for the Show.
  14. Each quilt must be permanently identified on the back of the quilt with your name, address, and title of the quilt.
  15. A one day Complementary Pass will be given to each person entering quilts.
  16. Shipping Information:: All contest quilts must arrive to the River Heritage Quilters Guild of Cape Girardeau between the dates of September 15 and 19. Ship the quilt to us in a strong , reusable, cardboard carton. We suggest you wrap the quilts in plastic and tape them tightly to prevent any possible water damamge during shipping. When preparing the carton for shipping, do not use the word Quilt on the outside of the box. Please attach your name and address to the quilt.

    All quilts will be returned in the same carton in which they are received and to the address on the carton. If you do not intend to claim the quilt at the end of the show, please make arrangements to have the quilt shipped back to you.

    All quilt owners within reasonable distance are welcome to hand deliver their entries. Hand delivered quilts should be brought to Rhea Optical, 1105 Broadway in Cape between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm. between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm on Friday, September 19.
